June 2025 Town Newsletter
Garbage Collection
Effective April 23, 2025 garbage pickup has been in the back alley. Anything weighing
over 30lbs will not be picked up and garbage must be bagged! If it is loose in a bin, it will
not be emptied. Needles and any biohazardous materials should be in separate sharps
and biohazard containers to be picked up by the proper authorities. Please consider your
thoughts on switching to a third-party provider with pick up every two weeks at roughly the
same cost, while answering the survey. The survey is attached to this newsletter and is
linked at the top of the first page!
Composting
The compost site is located off 1st Ave. E., on the north side of the road and across the rail
road tracks. Please use the receptacle, provided on site, for emptied bags. GARBAGE IS
NOT ACCEPTABLE! Compost should be made up of about 70% “brown” material and 30%
“green” material. Brown material includes dead leaves, twigs and wood chips. Green
material includes grass clippings, vegetable waste, fruit scraps, coffee grounds and tea
bags. If there isn’t a sufficient mix of brown and green materials, the compost pile will not
heat up, taking forever to break down. Further, tree branches are not acceptable at the
compost site, but rather need to be taken to the municipal nuisance ground burn pit.
Summer Event June 21 – Bylaw No. 533-25 Temporary Street Closure
