Council Updates
Council held an Emergency Meeting on July 8th regarding the water treatment plant’s apparent loss of water, and multiple avenues of determining the source were attempted between July 8th to July 21st. The cause has yet to be conclusively determined, but multiple repairs are underway and the water levels appear to have stabilized. Thank you to everyone for your patience and support as the Town continues to look into the matter and continues looking for operators.
The annual Special Joint Meeting on August 10th was postponed until further notice due to harvest. This meeting covers all matters jointly operated/funded by R.M. No. 74 of Wood River and Town of Lafleche. Town and R.M. will be participating in Emergency Response Planning Training throughout September – November, so the office may occasionally be closed Monday.
Raw Water Reminder
If you know that your riser needs repair or replacement, please contact the office. Similarly, please contact the office if you know the location of your property’s curb stop.
Watering days for properties are as follows: North of 4th Ave is on odd numbered days (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th) and South of 4th Ave is on even numbered days (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th). Please remember that use of raw water on unscheduled days will result in consequences. Raw water will always be shut off on the 31st of May, July, and August.
Please be aware of the water you may be wasting. Much of the infrastructure in Town is original and therefore decades old, the water usage can impact the lifespan of the infrastructure. Following rains or during heatwaves it is not recommended to use raw water, as the thing being watered has just been watered or the water will have mostly evaporated before reaching it.
Composting
The compost site is located off 1st Ave. E., on the north side of the road and across the rail road tracks. Please use the receptacle, provided on site, for emptied bags. GARBAGE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! If problems occur, the compost site may begin to operate similarly to the nuisance ground. Compost should be made up of about 70% “brown” material and 30% “green” material. Brown material includes dead leaves, twigs and wood chips. Green material includes grass clippings, vegetable waste, fruit scraps, coffee grounds and tea bags. If there isn’t a sufficient mix of brown and green materials, the compost pile will not break down.

WATERWORKS RATE POLICY
Water Rate Policy 29-13 is in effect. Bylaw No. 522-23 includes the rates that were approved in 2023 to be in effect thereafter.
Under Bylaw 522-23, the water rates are set as follows:
- MONTHLY WATER RATES FOR TOWN RESIDENTS:
Base – $23.00 per month
Water Rate of $.023 per gallon
- MONTHLY WATER RATES FOR RURAL RESIDENTS THAT ARE NOT MEMBERS OF A RURAL WATER CO-OPERATIVE:
Base $28.00 per month
Water Rate of $.028 per gallon
- MONTHLY WATER RATES TO BE CHARGED TO RURAL CO-OPERATIVES OR UTILITY BOARDS
Each Co-operative or Utility Board drawing water from the Town will be charged Base $28.00 per month
Water Rate of $.028 per gallon
- TOWN BULK FILL STATION
Water Rate of approximately $.028 per gallon
WATERWORKS CAPITAL INVESTMENT STRATEGY
The Town of Lafleche has aging infrastructure and both the Council and Administration are working towards realizing adequate reserves for future repairs and replacement. Infrastructure fees charged with every utility billing serve as revenue for reserves.
ANNUAL WATERWORKS FINANCIAL OVERVIEW
The following is information on the waterworks, as required under The Municipalities Regulations, Sec. 55:
2025 Waterworks Overview:
Total waterworks revenues: $320,822.96
Total waterworks expenditures: $482,788.80
Surplus (Deficit): ($161,965.84)
Comparison of waterworks revenues to expenditures, expressed as a ratio:

Thus, the 2025 waterworks revenues covered 66.45% of the expenditures.
