BUDGET AND TAXATION
On May 20, 2025, Council met to discuss and approve its annual cash budget. This year, revenues of $1,381,810 and expenditures of $1,196,971, and a transfer to future expenditure reserves of $184,000, result in an $839 surplus. The budget saw a mill rate reduction to 4.6 mills and maintained a 1.15 mill rate factor on commercial/industrial properties. A $525 minimum tax is applied to those residential improvements that do not meet the minimum, as per Bylaw No. 02-2021.
This year’s budget highlights include the purchase of a public works truck, bridge replacement with culverts, and an attachment for a grader. SAMA performs its revaluation every 4 years; 2025 was a revaluation year which reflected an increase in assessed values. Council made the decision to reduce the mill rate to reflect a similar tax levy as in prior years.
